This was the first year that UL was represented in the national Great Agri Food Debate sponsored by Dawn Meats. This exciting competition brings teams from all over the country together to debate important agri/food related topic from sustainability to the increase in veganism and it’s environmental and economic impact. This year’s event was hosted by Queen’s University Belfast on 26-27th Feb 2020.

The UL team comprised of six enthusiastic final year BSc Food Science & Health students Jack Comerford, Lydia Cope, Grainne Curran, Shola Koschan, Rebecca McManus and Ciara Sweeney who proudly flew the flag for UL for the first time at this national event.

The UL team defeated CIT in their quarter final opposing the motion ‘’Precision Farming is the only way to feed 10 billion people (Opposing)’’. Unfortunately they were subsequently defeated in their semi-final against UCD who went on the win the competition. The team were mentored by Eibhlís O’Connor, Ken Byrne and Con Traas (Dept. Biological Sciences) and received help from Alexander Hill (UL Debating Team). Well done to all involved.
